i think it's good that crokers finally been opened up and i don't understand why people are so obsessed with god save the queen been played there next year during the rugby. surely its time we moved on from petty bigotry?

Tollerance for what? The centuries of abuse from our "neighbors?" For no amount of money would I attend any event where God Save The Queen is played.

Yes, I am very serious. Your welcome to smack me anytime you want but it would not change my views. Pat, she is about 1500 miles away from me so she won't be walking it.

look there is way too much hatred of the english yes we have a long bloody history with them but surely we can move on. this god save the queen nonsense is ridiculous it will be on for a minute and a half at most and then we can go about the business of kicking their ass at rugby.

oh my god tommy, really would it make you feel better if they sang the sex pistols version? why do irish people have to take everything to heart. im not saying that we should forgive the powers that tried to dominate and persecuted our families for several hundred years and im definatly not saying its right but i think everyone has the right to have a bit of pride in the country in which they happened to be born.
and also i really have a thing for rugby players so i would like to see them play in a big stadium in ireland.....

I was in croake park last week to do my irish exam and a friend of mine said someone he knows was at some function where they played god save the queen and all the catholics left and all the protestants stood up. he was only five or roundabout and didnt know what to do out of fear so he went down on his honkers so no-one would be sure what he was doing. his granny who was very very republican didnt want to leave because she would have to stand to walk out so she sat on the guy next to hers knees to prevent him form standing up.

i don't think it's a protestant catholic issue if you look back over irish history some of our greatest revolutionaries weren't catholic e.g wolfe tone also some of them were members of some form of the british establishment e.g james connoly was a member of the british army.i can sort of understand why the granny would do that in the story because her parents and/or grandparents probably played some role in the civil war and war of independence. intresting story alocin.

well its happened taht there have been protestant and presbyterian rebels on the republican side(especially the latter) but you would be hard pressed to find catholics on the unionist side.
it kind of is about religion and at the same time it isnt.
but yeah we should take everything that was being said in the other post about the gay bar and put it here.
next time the queen passes you on the street just smile and wave, she wont know wats going on! Very Happy

God Save the Queen being played at Crokers is a discrace. Croke Park is home to our national games and the playing of that particular anthem in Croke Park is insulting considering the last time the english set foot there they slaughtered 30 of our civilians in what can only be considered as an insane killing spree. I suggest two possible alternatives, 1. The British offer not to play their anthem (In respect for their victims), or 2. we surrender home advantage and play the games in Twickinham.
