Readings for 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time (2nd Sept.)
Eccles (Sir) 3:17-20, 28-29. “There is no cure for the proud man’s malady, since an evil growth has taken root in him.” Is not this the obverse of “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven”?
Hebrews 12:18-19., 22-24. At the Sinai covenant God’s majesty was much in evidence, and that at a distance. The new covenant with Jesus consists in our becoming members of God’s beloved family, and seeing Him face to face.
Luke 14:1, 7-14. What Jesus observes in the house of a leading Pharisee calls for a lesson in the absolute need for meekness and humble service on the part of those who would enter God’s kingdom.

New Service for over 65s
‘Good Morning, Good Evening Inishowen’
From mid-September 2007 ‘Good Morning Inishowen’ hopes to extend the present service and commence a ‘Good Evening
Inishowen’ service. This should help make the long winter
evenings a little shorter and brighter for some of the older
people in the Inishowen area. On Tuesdays and Thursdays
calls will be made to older people living at home. Calls will be made from 5.30/6pm until 8pm. It is hoped that this will
allow individuals who would like to volunteer, but are busy throughout the day, the opportunity to now get involved with this free service for older people in the Inishowen area.
Recruitment of volunteers for this new evening service is now in process and if you are interested in finding out more or in becoming a volunteer please contact Anne at 9321598.
This project is funded by the European Union
Interreg 111A programme.
