“No grace period” in Pay and Display

Town Council dismisses “misconstrued notion” There is no grace period in Buncrana’s Pay and Display system – either “official or unofficial.” The news was confirmed yesterday after the Town Council released a statement on the issue after recent media reports stated a “ten minute grace period” was now in place in the town for motorists. Stating it wished to “clarify” the situation regarding the claim there was an official “grace period in force” the Town Council said there was “no grace period either official or unofficial for any vehicle that parks in a Pay and Display area in Buncrana.” The statement continued “The notion of a grace period may have been misconstrued from comments by a number of officials who correctly noted that it takes approximately 10 minutes from the time a non-compliant vehicle is noticed by the warden until such time as the ticket is actually processed, the warden has to note the details of the vehicle, take photographs of the vehicle and the location and finally print and fix the fixed penalty notice to the windscreen of the vehicle.” The statement concluded: “It again must be reaffirmed that there is no official grace period in force and patrons should pay and display as soon as possible after parking in a pay and display area.”
