Kings of Foyleside

Moville Celtic added the Buncrana Credit Union Cup to their Ulster Junior Cup success with a deserved 3-1 win over Foyleside neighbours Redcastle United at Maginn Park on Sunday. Moville took the lead midway through the first half through Nigel McMonagle and although Redcastle equalised in the second half through substitute Charlie McCormick Moville had an extra gear to run out 3-1 winners with goals from Declan McGuinness and man of the match Joe Doherty. It had been rumoured that this would be veteran Doherty’s last game for the club but Moville boss Darren Bredin dismissed such talk yesterday. “That won’t be Joe’s last game,” he told the Inish Times. “I wouldn’t say we were clear winners, it was a very hard game, it was good that we scored so soon after they equalised. “I was pleased more for the players than myself as their attitude has been excellent all season.” Reflecting on his side’s double cup success in his first season in charge, Bredin admitted that he hoped they could make more of an impact in the League next season after an indifferent campaign where they finished fourth in the Jackie Crossan Premier Division. “I hope we can make more of an impression in the League next year and if we play like we did yesterday and get a run together we can do that. “I’m grateful to the committee and the players for their efforts this year. The whole team played well yesterday so you couldn’t single out any individuals.” Meanwhile Redcastle boss Brian Bell says he will make a decision on his future in the coming days but he remains hopeful that he will remain at the helm as his side bid to win a third successive League title next season.
