Wireless internet “can’t come soon enough”

A wireless broadband service cannot come soon enough for internet users in the Culdaff, Gleneely and Carrowmenagh areas, according to Donegal Deputy Mayor, Cllr Charlie McConalogue. Cllr McConalogue is hopeful a service will be available in the Culdaff, Gleneely and Carrowmenagh areas “as soon as possible.” He was speaking after confirming the Urris and Dunaff areas of Clonmany now have live internet through the National Broadband Scheme. Describing the development as “very good” said the service would make a “significance difference” to internet users in the area. He said: “This is a very good development for people living in the Urris and Dunaff area who have had little or no internet availability until now and it will make a significant difference for those who wish to use internet in their daily lives or for work and study.” The internet is available wirelessly via a mast that was erected recently in the area by “3 Telecom” as part of the National Broadband Scheme. Cllr McConalogue said coverage “should be very good” for homes in the area due to the fact that households in the area were on a “relatively flat landscape.” He added: “Homes and businesses in the area can now avail of ‘3 broadband’ which provides a minimum download speed of 1.2Mbps and costs Ä19.99 per month with a once off connection fee of Ä49.” The service can be accessed by using a small modem which plugs in to the side of standard laptops and computers and users can now order an internet modem by calling the company’s customer services line on 1800 944 791 and the product can be delivered by post.” Cllr McConalogue reminded users in the Malin and Malin Head areas that wireless internet under the National Broadband Sheme was also available to them and could be ordered by contacting the above number. He added: “The Malin mast is sited on the RTE mast site and went live last October. ‘3 Telecom’ estimates that over 90% of homes in the area can access wireless internet from this mast.” Cllr McConalogue said he was continuing to work to help deliver internet to the Culdaff, Gleneely and Carrowmenagh areas. He added: “I am hopeful wireless internet can be secured in these areas during this year. I commend ‘3 Telecom’ for the very strong effort it is making to deliver this service as soon as possible. I know it can’t some soon enough for many.
