Ganley to help get “Inishowen working again

High profile Libertas European election candidate Declan Ganley will be in Buncrana this week to help to “get Inishowen people working again.” Ganley, a successful businessman, will be one of a number of speakers at an event being held in the Plaza this Thursday. “Inishowen Is Doing It For Themselves” is the brainchild of local businessman, Brian Flanagan, who has urged people from throughout the peninsula to attend. He said: “Those who come along can look forward to hearing ideas and information on fecund markets towards which our youth – indeed our whole community – should be designing their career choices and entrepreneurial efforts. We would hope to repeat the event twice yearly and meantime set up some kind of a little team to continue the process between times.” Declan Ganley came to prominence last year when sought election to the European Parliament. However, away from politics, he is a successful businessman having started in forestry and telecommunications. Other speakers will included Gerry Kindlon, executive director with Seagate, and who will share what they feel have been the Tom Brennan, of Rural Regneration. Mr. Flanagan said: “All the speakers will talk about secrets of their own success and what new business opportunities they feel could be developed in the area.” The event gets underway at 7.30pm and will be followed by the floor being “opened to entrepreneurial ideas” from the audience, Earlier in the day, 500 secondary students will take part in a number of interactive workshops at which they will have “unparalleled” access to local entrepreneurs and employers. Máire Gallagher, Director of School Employer Connections, the event organisers, said: “We are very grateful to all of the business people who responded so positively to this initiative and are giving generously of their valuable time to inform and mentor young people at a critical point in their education.” Buncrana Mayor, Cllr Lee Tedstone, has given his backing to the event saying it was “just what Buncrana and Inishowen needed.” He added: “From my own personal perspective as a director of a technology company, I feel it is essential for business people to help educators prepare our young people to make informed career choices in changing technological times.”
