Gardai advise man of “threat”

A Buncrana man has been informed by Gardai of a threat against him. Garda Superintendent William Johnston said the man was told after intelligence gained by Gardai revealed a threat against him. Several weeks ago, the paramilitary group, Republican Action Against Drugs (RAAD), in a statement to the “Inish Times,” warned drug dealers in Inishowen to “cease their activities” or “face direct action.” They said they were taking the action because of the increase in the availability of drugs in the Carndonagh, Buncrana and Moville areas. Meanwhile, Supt. Johnston said anyone who became aware of a threat against themselves, even if they were involved in criminal activity, should not hesitate to approach Gardai at anytime. RAAD are based in Derry and over the last 18 months have been responsible for so-called “punishment shootings” in the city. They have also been blamed for a number of men being forced to flee the city.
